If you work 8 to 5 Monday thru Friday in an office you will miss out on burning an average of 100 calories a day. This amount is based on Omaha, Nebraska different climates can be higher or lower. Constantly sitting in front of a computer can cause increased weight gain, depression and body fatigue not to mention stress. A big challenge women clients bring to me is when they work behind a computer all day, they crave bad foods. The cravings increase substantially when big dead lines come up.

As a Personalized Fitness Trainer, located in Omaha I always recommend to keep moving. Take several small breaks throughout the day to get your blood flowing and remove boredom. Let’s face it some jobs can cause overeating because they are boring. Be sure not to skip breakfast, this is the most important meal of the day. Make sure to eat a good protein lunch which will help avoid the dreaded 2PM sleepy feeling. I suggest having motivational things at your desk for example: a picture of the body you are working towards or a picture of your weight trainer pointing at you with the word ‘NO’. This will help you NOT to eat those M & M’s at that moment of weakness. Always have healthy food options at your reach; jar of peanut butter, a bag of almonds, a yogurt or some fruit.
If you are craving something sweet or salty, stay on your nutrition plan and treat your self to a SobeLife versus eating solid foods.  This will trick your body by giving it something sweet to eat and pervents you from binge eating a bag of chips. This particularly pertains to female clients, but it can help guys too.

If you are looking for ways to increase your calorie burning between 8 to 5 try some of these normal office activities:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator (Can burn up to 35 calories)
  • Tidy up your cubicle and water your plants (Burns up to 26 calories)
  • Stand while filing (Burns 21 calories)
  • Copy Documents (Burns 16 calories)

(All activities are based on 140lbs woman, activity is performed for up to 10 minutes)

This week I challenge you to do 10 push ups per hour, that will equal 80 push ups per day which will burn up to 80 calories. If you have any questions on workout techniques contact our Personal Trainer Omaha NE, we would be happy to help.
