Let’s face it the major reason anyone wants to lose weight is to physically look better. We want to look good for ourselves and care about what other people think about how we look. This is completely acceptable as what we see on the outside will reflect our attitude on the inside. Losing weight does have major benefits beyond looking and feeling great. There is a science behind having your appearance be the major motivator for losing weight. You have to learn to convert all negative thoughts to positive ones. We can be the harshest critics of ourselves so how do you stop trash talking yourself and loving your self. First, get off the couch and make the change. Over 90% of people will start a weight loss program due to not being happy with their appearance. This is a great motivator and can push your mind and body to new limits. We all know that weight gain does not happen overnight. It is typical for all of us to put on blinders in life and consume food when we are not happy with a certain aspect of our life or if we have low self esteem. For your appearance to be your motivator for weight loss you have to learn how to let the past go. Realize that you have the ability to lose weight and accomplish any goal you set for yourself. Remember we are our own self critics and can be extremely harsh in our physical appearance. To help reduce self trash talk start with conditioning your mind. Learn to let go of the past and forgive yourself for all the bad eating habits and for not taking better care of yourself.
The key to any weight loss program is making a lifestyle change. Eating healthier should not last a week or a month it should be applied for the rest of your life. This does not mean you cannot experience food and all the things you love to eat, it just means you have to learn why you love those foods. In typical cases when soemone starts eating clean they find that the foods they thought they loved are not as appealing once they have stopped eating them for a while. For example: make a goal to not consume any fast food for a week. I can guarantee you will see the scale go down as fast food is filled with sodium which helps keep the food from spoiling. When you teach yourself new habits (i.e. eating healthier) the old habits will be replaced.
It is always recommended to learn why you want to lose weight. If fitting into a certain size is your ultimate goal buy an outfit of that size and hang it in your view so you see it everyday. Be sure to create small goals through out your process to keep your mind and body motivated. You can accomplish anything you put your mind too!
